How long is a minute?

This week in maths we have been exploring how long a minute is. We found out that 60 seconds makes a minute. We estimated, then checked how many different things we could do in a minute.

Next we are going to learn  to tell the time to the hour and half hour.

At home it would be great if you could support your child's learning by stating the time when certain things happen especially if it is on the hour or half hour. For example: "Look! It's 8 o'clock, time for bed" or " It's 5:30, time for tea"

Theo's report on the opening of our new playground.

This week Mrs O's writing group were practising writing a report. We pretended we were news reporters reporting on the opening of our new playground. If you would like to see more of our news reports make sure you click on the 'Our Writing' tab at the top of your screen. It will take you to our writing blog.

Halswell School Maori Language Week

We have been having lots of fun focusing on things Maori this week.

We have been learning how to do a simple pepeha. Ava and Ming Xuan made this sock puppet video to show a pepeha.

The pepeha is the way to introduce yourself in Maori.

We have been practicing our counting in Maori.

Our favourite event was the 'Whanau Afternoon' where we went to different studios in family groupings(Year 1-8) and made different things.
In Ti Kouka we made Rakau.

Thanks to Mrs Baxter for organising the week!

The Ned Show

On Wednesday we watched the Ned Show. The messages were Never give up. Encourage others. Do your best. The presenter, Jessie, was extremely talented with her yo-yo and performed many tricks while telling stories. It was an entertaining show with powerful messages.
