Visit from Sharon Holt - author and song writer

Author Sharon Holt Visits the library.

Children’s author and songwriter visited our library to put on a show for us. Sharon has written several of our readers, but in the show introduced us to her new Maori songs. There was plenty of action and laughter as the songs were acted out. It was great to see our librarian Zac McCullum taking part.

House Building

Easy Blog Photo

It was really hard to make the walls stay up. It was hard for us to make it big and to include everyone's room. Finally we got the walls to stay up!

T13 and T14's Visit to Te Hapua

Today we walked to the library in the wet rain. We felt like we were having a shower outside. When we got there we sat on the couches and listened to Sarah. Then we looked at the books. We saw a cool book called the Secret Kingdom. After that we issued the books. Sarah read us 3 stories. We liked the Cow Tripped over the Moon and That's Not a Good Idea. The duck tried to put the fox in the soup. It was funny. It was sunnier than ever on the way back. It was an amazing and excellent trip. We would love to go again.

Stop, Look and Listen

Today we did some buddy assessment about how to cross the road safely.

  1. We wrote a checklist on how to cross the road.
  2. We went outside and drew a road, footpath and houses using chalk.
  3. We then took turns being the crosser, a car and a checker.
  4. We used our checklist to make sure we were crossing safely.

Road Safety with Constable Ross

On Monday we went for a walk with Constable Ross.

We practised crossing the road.

You need to:
  • Stop, and take a step back
  • Look both ways
  • Listen for cars
  • Walk across the road

We also learnt about sneaky driveways

Diwali

I went to the Diwali Festival. I was on the stage. I did a dance. Everyone was taking photos. I was shy. There were more than a thousand and ten people. I loved the other dancing more and I was in the newspaper. It lasted until my bedtime. After I changed I had to go straight to bed.

Road Safety

Constable Ross came to school today to talk to us about road safety. We talked about the different vehicles that are on our roads.

We came up with some safety rules for when we are in a car.

Always put your seat belt on- hear it click.
Make sure the door is shut.
Don't get out of the car until it has stopped.
You need to be in a booster until you are 7 years old or 148cm.
The tallest person in our class isn't 148cm yet.

Don't distract the driver
Don't throw things out the window.
Always get out of the car from the footpath side.
Never play around parked cars.

We remembered to get out of the car on the footpath side!
